Second meeting of the School of Generative AI and Law – Lectures on Ethics and AI
We would like to invite you to the second meeting of the School of Generative AI and Law, which will take place on Thursday, 23 November 2023, at 17.00 in the Red Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Poljanski nasip 2. The school, which is under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, will focus this week on the ethical aspects of the use of artificial intelligence.

Registration for all participants will take place in front of the lecture hall from 16.30 to 17.00.
The school, which is under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, will focus this week on the ethical aspects of the use of artificial intelligence. You can look forward to interesting and informative lectures by three renowned experts in the field:
17.00 – 18.00 Ethical Aspects of the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko, Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics, UL Prof. Bratko is the founder of artificial intelligence in Slovenia and one of the pioneers of machine learning at international level. His scientific contributions cover areas such as machine learning, logic programming and applications of AI in medicine and robotics. Prof. Bratko is the author of numerous scientific publications and has had a significant impact on the development of artificial intelligence at home and abroad.
In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratko will address key issues that have arisen due to the ubiquity of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily lives. With the technical advances of the last decade and their impact on everyday life, important ethical and socially relevant issues have emerged. These include the potential for AI to manipulate humans, the impact on democratic processes, the misuse of personal data, the incomprehensibility of some AI approaches, bias and the use of AI in autonomous weapons. Prof. Bratko will explore these issues and present general initiatives and proposals to address these challenges. The lecture will offer insights into the complex ethical dilemmas we face in an era of rapid AI development.
18.30 – 19.30 Ethics and AI
Dr Eleanor Drage from the Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Cambridge will present her perspective on the impact of technology on society. Through her work on projects such as Desirable Digitalisations and the In-Depth EU AI Act, Dr Drage will highlight the relevance of feminist and anti-racist ideas in the context of AI.
19.45 – 20.30 News and AI
Prof. Dr. Marko Milosavljević from the Faculty of Social Sciences at UL will close the evening with a lecture on the impact of AI on media and journalism. As a full professor and Head of the Department of Communication, Prof. Milosavljevic will explore how AI is changing the media landscape.
The event promises an in-depth understanding and discussion of the ethical aspects of AI, which is crucial in today’s rapidly changing technological world.

Open Data and Intellectual Property Institute ODIPI organized the ERA KR21 Conference Slovenia on December 2, 2024, with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Slovenia and the Knowledge Rights 21 (KR21) program. The Conference focused on addressing the most pressing issues in copyright regulation in the fields of science and Open Science within the European Union (EU), with particular emphasis on barriers and incentives for Open Science in the copyright law. The event represented Slovenia’s contribution to implementing European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda Action 2, which focuses on creating a supportive EU legislative framework for copyright and data governance.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the second day of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2024 took place at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade. Dr. Maja Bogataj Jančič participated as a speaker, presenting during the panel titled “AI Regulation – what we learned so far?”.
